Description
Early February 2026 UI change that collapsed per-file progress output into 'Read 4 files (ctrl+o to expand)'. Boris Cherny defended it as 'simplifying the UI so you can focus on diffs and bash/mcp outputs, Anthropic's own developers appreciated the reduced noise.' Community identified three harms: security (can't catch mis-scoped context reads), cost (can't interrupt wrong-track runs to save tokens), audit (can't reconstruct what Claude did). Foreshadowed every later community trust issue. Architecturally revealing: exposes Anthropic's internal-vs-external trust asymmetry — the same design choice appears at both UI and system-prompt layers.
Key claims
- UI asymmetry reflects internal-vs-external trust asymmetry
